Absurd

To think that people are using Tasers unnecessarily! We do not know of such things!

MARRERO — Family members of Derek Thomas, nephew of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, are alleging that the younger Thomas, was punched and tazed when he was admitted to West Jefferson Hospital Thursday.

The family says the use of the taser caused Thomas to have a seizure.

According to at statement from the family, Derek Thomas, who is epileptic, refused to put on a hospital gown and tried to leave his examination after a possible suicide attempt. They say security “punched him in his lip, pulled out more than a fistful of his dredlocks and tasered him to restrain him.”

Doctors knew about Thomas’ epilepsy, but ordered security officers to use the taser anyway, instead of sedating him, the family says.

  1. Well, I don’t know the whole story so I shouldn’t pull an Obama and make a comment. 😀

    BUT….

Having been in similar situations myself as an LEO, I can vouch for the fact that Drs are hesitant to go in with needles if a subject is acting violently.

Unfortuantly, todays hospitals aren’t equipped with hyposprays. The Doctor was probably thinking, Dammit, I’m a doctor, not a security guard!!”

  2. Does anyone think Clarence Thomas would actually give a shit? That conservative quisling would see epilepsy as a criminally punishable offense.

  3. Drat.. Accidentally hit SUBMIT.

Anyways, in such circumstances and for the safety of ALL present, Doctors will require that a subject be restrained or rendered immobile so that sedatives can be administered safely..

Which explains why the doctors gave the orders they gave…

  4. Ron,

Does anyone think Clarence Thomas would actually give a shit?

Oh come now… The kid is the guys nephew.. Of course he gives a shit…

Or is it your position that those who are conservative don’t care about family??

  5. This really disturbs me. Epilepsy is a disturbance of the brain’s electrical system; to allow a person with it to be tasered is inexcusable. Any seizure leaves the person hurt for periods of time. I have a friend who is often left unable to work for days after a seizure. To think the doctors allowed this… no, not acceptable. And they, being doctors, should know about epilepsy and its effects.

I don’t care about the Clarence Thomas connection, but I feel for Derek and his immediate family.

  6. And they, being doctors, should know about epilepsy and its effects.

    Exactly…

The Doctors WOULD know more about it. So, if a doctor ordered a violent subject to be tasered, isn’t it logical to assume that the doctor knew what he was doing??

  7. Clarence can choke on a chicken bone as far as I’m concerned. 🙂

  8. CF,

    Don’t feed the trolls.

Let me ask you… Do you even KNOW the definition of a ‘Net Troll?? Because your attempt to label me in such a manner clearly indicates that you have no clue as to what constitutes a ‘Net Troll…

Clarence can choke on a chicken bone as far as I’m concerned

So, let me get this straight…

You would wish death on someone just because they have a different viewpoint??

WOW…. And you consider yourself a liberal???

    Michale32086

  9. Unfortuantly.
    Er, no.
    Thanks for playing!
(Feel free to choke on that bone yourself, though.:-))

  10. CF,

    OK, kewl..

    So, we are agreed…

You are not a liberal and you wish death upon those who don’t believe as you do…

Glad we got that cleared up…. 😀

Let me know if you ever find that definition of what a ‘Net Troll is…

Because, to be perfectly honest… Your posts fit the accepted definition…

    Great chatting with ya.. 😀

  11. Michale — Derek Thomas had a massive seizure after being tased. Of course, who would think that an electrical brain storm could result from the body being hit by an electrical disruption of the nervous system, right?

  12. Geez, nothing like abusing a sick, despondent (just attempted suicide) person with epilepsy by smacking his brain with an electrical device. These doctors just come from Guantanamo, maybe? This is unacceptable in any light. I hope they get their a**** sued off. And the the man is ok, and gets REAL medical help next time.

  13. Clarence can choke on a chicken bone as far as I’m concerned

So, let me get this straight…

You would wish death on someone just because they have a different viewpoint??

Where in that statement, is there any mention of death?

  14. PurpleGirl,

Michale — Derek Thomas had a massive seizure after being tased. Of course, who would think that an electrical brain storm could result from the body being hit by an electrical disruption of the nervous system, right?

    Two things.

One.. Neither of us were there, so we don’t know all the facts. I only relay my own personal experiences of similar situations that I have been in. We can go back and forth on this particular incident until the cows come home. But it’s all conjecture..

Two.. I am not a doctor and (I assume) neither are you. Therefore, neither of us could possibly have a clue of the exact medical situation at the exact moment. I merely pointed out that, if a doctor ordered the security officer to tase a violent individual, then it is logical to assume that the doctor knew what he or she was doing. A logical assumption, logically arrived at.

    Kat,

Where in that statement, is there any mention of death?

Choking on a chicken bone (or any bone, for that matter) can likely result in death…

    http://www.thefreelibrary.com/CHOKED+TO+DEATH+ON+A+CHICKEN+BONE.(News)-a0148601325

It’s like saying you hope someone would fall off a cliff.. While the desire for death is not implicitly stated, it’s logical to infer that someone falling off a cliff would, in fact, die.

Regardless, even if the desire is for extreme discomfort, as opposed to death, the question is still valid.

Why would any civilized human being want to wish extreme discomfort on someone else, just because of a differing political viewpoint?

Such an attitude is as alien to me as wishing death on someone because they like green instead of purple.

  15. “Why would any civilized human being want to wish extreme discomfort on someone else, just because of a differing political viewpoint?”

They all do it, liberal, conservative or other, and it’s blah, blah, blah………

  16. Kat,

They all do it, liberal, conservative or other, and it’s blah, blah, blah……

Which simply proves what I have always said..

There really isn’t any difference between liberals and conservatives these days.

Which is why I pride myself in being an NPA… 😀

  17. With no disrespect meant to Derek Thomas, this may have been the best thing that could have happened wrt the taser debate.

The ONLY time a conservative cares about a given issue is when it happens to him or her. Arlen Specter is in favor of medical marijuana because he has cancer. George Will opposes all social programs except for programs for the retarded because HIS kid has Down Syndrome. Etc, etc.

So it will go with Clarence Thomas

  18. “It’s like saying you hope someone would fall off a cliff.. ”
    Uh no.
    It’s not the same.
The falling isn’t dangerous, per se. It’s the impact at the end of the fall that kills you.
The choking-on-a-bone scenario requires the act of choking, which would be infinitely more distressing and horrific than the more sudden impact (or multiple impact) death process of a fall from a cliff.
When someone suggests that they wish someone would choke on a chicken bone, you should assume that they were specific when suggesting that particular event.
    2) “The ONLY time a conservative cares about a given issue is when it happens to him or her.” This is bullshit. Whenever anything happens to anybody, they care about it.

Dividing Americans into two imaginary camps, then starting a fire, then fanning that fire works to the adavantage of our owners. The false dichotomy is what’s wrong with the framing of this entire discourse, aside from paranoid bloggers parsing “code talk” regarding race and gender and etc. We’re all Americans on a wooden ship that’s burning and like idiots we’re arguing about what color the fire is and who started it. This fucking ship is sinking, morons.

  19. CF,

The falling isn’t dangerous, per se. It’s the impact at the end of the fall that kills you.

    yuk yuk yuk…

    “That’s humor. I recognize that.”
    -JT Walsh, GOOD MORNING VIETNAM

We’re all Americans on a wooden ship that’s burning and like idiots we’re arguing about what color the fire is and who started it.

All I am saying is that it’s ridiculous to wish hurt or pain on someone just because they have a different political view.

Would you agree with such a statement or not??

    brendancalling,

    don’t feed the anti-semitic troll…

Could you possibly be MORE wrong with that single statement??

A> Anyone who has a clue would know that I am a staunch defender of Israel and could not be called “Anti-Semitic” by ANY stretch of anyone’s WILDEST imagination..

and B> if you had clue one regarding the definition of a Net Troll, then you would realize how completely and utterly ridiculous you sound trying to affix that particular to me.

You might as well call me a cucumber. That has as much accuracy as you calling me a troll..

Finally, the fact that you have to resort to childish and eliminationist name-calling rather than address the issues raised pretty much indicates who the ‘net Troll really is here…

Check the REAL definition and you will know this to be true.

Have a real nice day and thanks for playing.. 😀
