It’s one of the poorest cities in the country, and it’s what’s known as a “food desert.” Go read the whole thing. I’m really glad the Inquirer has been running this series on poverty and hunger.

I never had an inkling that Chester was so destitute. Years ago I had a friend named Marcus Bellgraves—-played with Miles and other well-knowns in the progressive jazz field back in the 60’s. Anywho, Marcus was from Chester and always spoke lovingly of his hometown, but , wow, I didn’t realize it was such a poor area!!!!!
Yep. And this time, we get to blame the Republicans who ran the town for the past 125 years.
