  1. it’s not just oil. i think people are also nervous about yemen because the government is really unstable, it’s already got two regional armed rebellions festering and (unlike places like countries like tunisia, egypt and libya) it has an active al qaeda cell in the country that has attempted to attack the u.s. in the past.

    of course, in the long run supporting an oppressive dictator just because he also oppresses our enemies is not a good strategy. it’s just that no one has come up with a better one yet.
