Stoller has a list of all the broken promises from the 2008 platform. He sums up thusly:
These aren’t just broken promises, these are all broken promises that have to do with the economic and political rights of the relatively powerless. Privacy, union rights, debtor’s rights, activist rights, etc – they were promised tangible stuff, and didn’t get it. It looks like the Obama campaign will get a bounce from the convention, because the convention is well-organized and a good show. Just recognize that this show in 2008 had nothing to do with the ultimate policy that was enacted, and it’s likely that the 2012 convention will see a similar outcome.

Speaking of the hoodwinked. Bill Clinton is a class A phoney. Yet 93% of Democrats looove him. What that says is that most people are not very bright. “Nowhere are prejudices more mistaken for truth, passion for reason, and invective for documentation than in politics.” John Mason Brown. A good politician like Clinton understands that and plays to the basis instincts of people. And the people looove him for it. The dopes. What about Obama? He’s learning how to be a good politician.
Elizabeth rocks! What sez ye now?
ps: John Mason Brown? Brown attacked comic books as “the marijuana of the nursery; the bane of the bassinet; the horror of the house; the curse of the kids; and a threat to the future.”[2] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Mason_Brown
Reads as right wing tool. Comics rule: http://empireofdirt77.blogspot.com/2012/09/slut-shame-victim-blame-and-history-of.html
So if the Democratic Party can’t keep all of its promises, then we shouldn’t vote for them? If so, then what would you do as a Republican in Congress? And what have those Republicans done?
Nevertheless, I share Stoller’s concern. My vote won’t go to the Republicans, however. Maybe the Green party. Still undecided, and tired of voting for the lesser of two evils.
I haven’t had a lot of time to follow the Dem Convention (a friend had a stroke and I’m the only one around who can speak to the medical/hospital people until memory returns — BTW, to all you damn pols who say people can easily work later and later because everyone’s so much healthier? This is a person who never smoked, does not drink, eats healthily, lost weight and had been thin for a long time. However, this person had cancer 20-odd years ago, had everything in the chemo pharmacopia of the time thrown at the cancer, and survived. But chemo can lead to atrial fibillation, which can lead to blood clots, which led to a stroke…so probably no more working years for this person…. Damn you, you bastard pols.), but the speeches I’ve heard have seemed to present the principles of the party, as I’ve known them, prior to Corporate Man President, and have been very moving.
But, everytime I feel some strong enthusiasm, I remember who they’re trying to get into the presidency again, the guy who sucks up to the rich and powerful, who does backroom deals. Ack!
There is this terrible chasm between the ideals and principles being advocated for and the actions of this president.
Does Michelle NOT SEE THIS???? Emotional capture going on here?
Michelle does not see what you see jawbone. And clearly you don’t see what she see’s. The question becomes then, which one of you knows the man best? A very strong case can be made that it sure isn’t you jawbone.
