Passing note

I read something the other day (can’t find it right now) that clicked in with something I’ve been wondering: Namely, why do Obama and educations “reformers” keep pushing the imaginary need for more STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) graduates when we already have enough?

Answer: To drive down their salaries. Now I get it!

So all those kids, going deep into debt to earn degrees they think will bring them a bright economic future, are just getting screwed. I can just picture Jeffrey Immalt whispering in Obama’s ear: “We can only compete if we can pay dirt-cheap salaries for engineers, like we do in India and Pakistan.”

Moral? Do something you love, kids. You may be broke, but at least you won’t be doing something you hate for peanuts.

  1. Predicated on the assumption that labor can be acquired from any source (as long as its cheaper); A “One World” business model (that benefits only the 1% owners, BTW). Funny I never hear the Teabaggers or Rethugs screaming about that.
