Rich asshole to Catholic Church: If you don’t love me, I’ll just take my ball and go home!
In an interview on CNBC on Monday, Home Depot founder and devout Catholic Ken Langone said that the Pope’s statements about capitalism have left many potential “capitalist benefactors” wary of donating to the Church or its fundraising projects…

It is difficult to believe that the Jesuit, Liberation Theology of the 1960’s is alive and well. It is even more difficult to believe that Pope Francis meant to resurrect Jesuit Peruvian, Father Gustavo Gutierrez’s Theology of Liberation and start this class war. But that is exactly what he’s done. “The real hero is always a hero by mistake; he dreams of being an honest coward like everyone else.” Umberto Eco.
“… Rich people in one country don’t act the same as rich people in another country…”
This is true. Some wealthy people have a sense of “noblesse oblige”.
And then there are wealthy people who have no such sense of duty to help those less fortunate than themselves.
I’m guessing Mr. Langone gravitates toward this latter group.
Oh, the uncertainty of it all! The bane of rich people everywhere.
Can they really be sure that the government they bought and paid for will always let them foist business cost externalities on the unsuspecting population? Will the Pope say something nasty about greed? Can all offshore tax havens be brought home untaxed?
It’s practically enough to make one weep.
If Ken Langone is threatening the life of the pope I’d like to hear him be more explicit about it.
He does worry, though, because of “the vast difference between the Pope’s experience in Argentina and how we are in America. There is no nation on earth that is so forthcoming, so giving.”
Yes, that’s why our income and wealth inequality is the highest in the developed world.
What a putz!
I wonder what he thought of Benny Ratzinger’s experience in Austria as a way on understanding how we are in America.
The good thing about this is that I now know I should avoid Home Depot whenever possible. I bet they screw their employees.
