Dershowitz still an asshole

Annual John Gandel Symposium - The Middle East

Dear Lord, these people are astoundingly resistant to introspection. Via the Sideshow:

Here’s an astonishing piece of crap from Alan Dershowitz:

As far as Greenwald is concerned, he’s an ideologue. I don’t think he would have revealed this information if it had been critical of Venezuela or Cuba or the Palestinian Authority. You know, he doesn’t like America. He doesn’t like Western democracies. He’s never met a terrorist he didn’t like. So he’s a very hard-left ideologue that uses this to serve his political agenda not simply to reveal information in a neutral way. That makes him very different from WikiLeaks, I think.

I love the idea that (a) a concerned citizen should be criticizing other countries when their own government is clearly violating the rights of its citizens and (b) when you know the most powerful country in the world is committing egregious crimes and atrocities, you should aim all of your criticisms at Venezuela. Because they are so much more of a threat to the world, I guess. It’s like saying that Germans during the rise of the Third Reich should have been pointing with alarm at Ecuador or something.

  1. Dershowitz’ is getting worse. He actually froths at the mouth now. It’s astonishing that he got famous as a ‘civil liberties’ lawyer. He’s abandoned all that now.

  2. Obviously doesn’t know any actual “hard left” ideologues, so he’s just talking out his ass. It’s pretty hard to square Glenn’s nearly unqualified support of Citizens United as “rightly decided” with a rigid, far left perspective.

There’s deep criticism of Glennzilla from both the right and the far left. See for instance Arthur Silber’s vociferous and snarky denunciations of GG for selling out to the oligarchic corporatist right.

Glenn knows who he is and what he believes. I doubt he spends a lot of time agonizing over what others, most of whom know very little about him or his objectives, think or say about him. The title of his original blog, “Unclaimed Territory,” suggests he always intended to operate outside established ideological labels and dogma. It is also very clear that his career moves have been extremely astute in both advancing his agenda, and in aggrandizing his “brand.”

Glenn is no one’s purist but his own.
