I have spent a couple of hours today, trying to pay my health insurance premiums. I paid them last month, but they have no record. They have no record, but I’m pretty sure that magically, the two-month payment will be siphoned out of my checking account if I try to pay it again.
The other problem is that they’re trying to bill me for the original high-deductible policy that was supposed to be cancelled. It’s $100 more, so it matters. (Oddly enough, when I log into the Blue Cross website, it shows the correct policy — but I can’t pay 0nline because I do not yet have a billing number.)
A woman who promised she’d call me back in a half-hour did call me back — two hours later, and I didn’t hear the phone. Not that it matters, because she was trying to charge me for the old plan even though she swore it wasn’t.
My head hurts.

Oh great, so it’s like the old frustrating insurance program designed to cheat people out of money and services, except everybody has to buy a policy or pay extra in taxes? Great . . . thanks President Obama.
Not quite the same, but close. Republicare just isn’t working as well as Romney (and the Heritage Foundation) said it would. In the spirit of bipartisanship (translated: profit), we tried the fucking thing. Can we have single payer now?
Oh, susie, I wish this thing actually worked, just so it could work for you! Hang in there.
(And, yes, seconded. Can we have single payer now?)
On WUWM, Milwaukee area public radio, there was a brief report on how many have signed up for Obamacare.
Most people have opted for the plan which pays only 70% of medical costs.
Which leaves them paying 30% of costs, which are usually unknowable ahead of time and most often there’s not really the opportunity to say no thanks, I’ll just wait this out…and maybe die….
I know how hard my deductibles were to pay off after a long hospital stay — and i had better coverage than 70%. OMG, this could be catastrophic for many.
Bankruptcy lawyers are probably salivating and the increased numbers who will be filing for bankruptcy due to medical bills.
Way to go, Barry, eh?
If only we had Medicare for All! (Improved, of course.)
