Bye bye Tom

At lead we kicked Tom Corbett to the curb!

York County businessman Tom Wolf has been elected Pennsylvania governor after spending $10 million of his own money on a powerful TV ad campaign that helped send Gov. Tom Corbett to a historic defeat.

With Tuesday’s victory, the 65-year-old Democrat will be Pennsylvania’s 47th governor and the first since 1979 never to have held elective office.

A folksy ad campaign launched in January seemed to give Wolf a head start that proved overwhelming to the Republican governor, who was deeply unpopular after stumbling through his first term.

In the ads, Wolf presented himself to voters as a Jeep-driving Ph.D. who shared profits with the employees at his York-based furniture business.

Corbett is the first incumbent to lose in the four decades since Pennsylvania’s chief executive was allowed to run again.

  1. Beating this guy was a real stretch. 🙂 General election post mortem or for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. 1) The Blue Dogs—including both Clinton’s—are dead and should be buried. 2) The Democratic Party needs new leadership. Pelosi must go and so must Hoyer, Reid, Steve Israel, Wassermen-Schultz and the rest. 3) The Democrats need a new message. They need to talk more about increasing wages, creating jobs and equalizing wealth and less about abortion, guns, gay rights, and the war on women. 5) The moderate/conservative apparatchik of the Democratic Party must be replaced with Progressive voices. 6) The dominant interventionist group (neo-cons) in the Democratic Party must be dislodged in favor of the non-interventionist foreign policy wonks. *** Last nights Democratic defeat was a reaction to and a repudiation of the 25 year old Clintonite experiment. If the Democratic Party moves to the left it will easily defeat the Republican Party in 2016. If it does not then last nights debacle will seem like the good old days by comparison.
