  1. I could not believe that op-ed when I read it. It almost seems like somebodies crappy idea of a satire.

While the author does make some worthwhile points about police work this paragraph seems to be the crux of the explanation as to why they hate de Blasio. And I read this paragraph and I think to myself, this is what you think justifies your behavior? That the mayor spoke to his son about reality and that he showed understanding towards the truly massive numbers of citizens who are demanding a chance in police accountability and tactics? The police just need to quit digging at this point.

“When I hear this sort of thing, my blood pressure goes through the roof. Mr. de Blasio is more than any other public figure in this city responsible for feelings of demoralization among the police. It did not help to tell the world about instructing his son, Dante, who is biracial, to be wary of the police, or to publicly signal support of anti-police protesters (for instance, by standing alongside the Rev. Al Sharpton, a staunch backer of the protests). If there is any self-pity involved, which I doubt, it is only because we lack respect from our elected officials and parts of the media. It has taken two dead cops for some people to take a step back and realize what a difficult job cops have.”

  2. You’re right about the comment section. I read the first few, out of over 1000, and came across this gem:

    “Marie Zeller, Chicago Jan 8

Strangely, I haven’t heard of the sanitation workers of New York City insisting on compliments before they do their jobs, despite the fact that a trash collector is twice as likely to die on the job as a cop (according to the Department of Labor statistics).”

  3. How many French cops does it take to catch two murders?
    Answer: 80 thousand.
At least the French authorities didn’t lock Paris down like the cops in Boston did after two murders set off two bombs in that city.
If the cops don’t respect their bosses, who are the people’s elected officials, then they should immediately resign and get a more dangerous job like being a lumberjack.
The cops in this country have crossed way over the bright red line and need to be brought to heel.
