I just heard a loud “POP” from my PC and now there’s a burning smell. Although it still seems to be working well, I suspect it’s dying. Anyone have any idea?

Was the sound “from” your PC as in it came from where your PC normally makes sounds, or from somewhere deep inside the cabinet?
I’m tempted to think an actual bug — as in insect — crawled inside and got electrocuted. But that depends on the nature of the smell.
It was an electrical smell. Also, it’s been shutting down occasionally.
The power supply?
I blew a power supply once. It made little poot sounds as it sent out sparks like a roman candle. It also had that electrical burn smell. It was under warranty so the service tech replaced the motherboard along with the ps.
It’s still working, so I don’t know.
Likely an electrolytic cap.
I’d start planning for a different computer.
Make backups now.
I have a remote backup service, so that’s okay.
