It appears that the talks between the US and the Taliban in Doha, Qatar over the weekend went very well.
So well in fact that the US made the decision not to allow the people of Afghanistan to starve to death.
The US side reported that the talks were “candid and professional,” while the Taliban said that the talks were “positive.”
The discussions centered around the Taliban’s commitment not to harbor terrorist groups that want to attack America and it’s allies, and the continuing repatriation of US and other foreign nationals as well as those Afghans who worked for the US during the war.
In return the Taliban wanted food to feed its people and a commitment from the US to honor Afghanistan’s sovereignty.
If the US can successfully negotiate with the Taliban, then it can certainly negotiate with Iran, Cuba, Venezuela, North Korea, and China and arrange a working relationship.
