They warned us

Scientists told us as the planet heats up, we’d start to get all kinds of tropical diseases in the U.S.. But only neurotic doomsayers like myself were paying attention:

Microworld

So I wrote about this, and now I’m doing it.

And I gotta say, it’s pretty amazing. The first thing I noticed is, the pain in my hands that recently had me cut back on posting is almost gone. Turns out, the drug has strong anti-inflammatory properties, and it doesn’t only work on your brain. (We now know a lot of depression is brain inflammation.) I read somewhere it’s being used for post-stroke patients.

My friend’s treatment-resistant depression was so bad, it was hard for her to even  answer the phone. She can’t get over the difference it’s made. Life is so much easier for her to handle these days — and happier!

After you take it, you’re supposed to do things to stimulate your neural pathways, like meditation. (Neuroplasticity, motherfuckers!)

I listen to YouTube videos of Tibetan singing bowls, it’s very soothing. I highly recommend it!

I hate pollen

I have really had it with all this stinking pollen. We’re not getting enough rain, but we’re getting plenty of breezes spreading this green crap all over the place. Meanwhile, fire weather watch and air quality alerts issued for southeastern PA for Tuesday. Wildfires have been popping up in unexpected places.

On Sunday, my eyes were burning. Yesterday, I added a splitting sinus headache to the symptoms. I tried Excedrin and ice packs. Finally, I resorted to the nuclear bomb of sinus treatments: Pepsi. That finally did the trick, but of course I had trouble sleeping from the caffeine. Oh well.

Did you know that caffeine crosses the blood-brain barrier much more quickly and efficiently when it’s carried via carbonation? So there you go.

Announcement

I’ve developed trigger finger in both hands (trigger thumb, to be specific). So I will be cutting back on posts until my hands feel better.

Unfortunately, I need to prioritize my day job. You know how it is.

If any of you have had this and successfully recovered, I’d love to hear your success stories.

Dermatology time

Steven Cornfield/UnSplash

Turns out there was a pre-cancerous lesion on my face, and the skin doc prescribed a VERY EXPENSIVE chemotherapy cream (let’s put it this way, the co-pay was $82) that requires me to wear latrile gloves while putting it on — and after taking the gloves off, I still have to wash my hands thoroughly. Scary! But happy to have caught it early.
