  1. I’ll admit that I do have a problem about the Cordoba Mosque when I initially did not.

But, I would overcome my reservations if the Imam, Feisal Rauf could answer me three very simple yet vital questions.

    1. Why won’t you declare that Hamas is a terrorist group?

    2. Why would you claim that the US is an “accessory” to the 9/11 attacks, thereby mitigating (no matter how minutely or subtlety) the responsibility of the Islamic terrorists?

    3. Why would you claim that the US has more blood on their hands when it comes to Muslims than terrorists do??

If Rauf could answer those three questions honestly and sincerely, I would not have a problem with the Cordoba Mosque.

  2. Our government has done things that contributed to pissing off a lot of people, including some Muslims. To deny that is absurd.

Even if Rauf can’t answer your questions to your satisfaction that still doesn’t mean he doesn’t have a constitutional right to build a community center, that happens to have a prayer room, there.

Do you thoroughly and unequivocally denounce Timothy McVeigh and Erik Rudolph?

  3. Concerning Michale’s three questions: they are all false equivalencies that have nothing to do with the issue. I suppose you’d ask the same questions if the mosque was slated to be built on Staton Island somewhere, right? And, BTW, what the hell does Rauf’s opinion of Hamas have to do with where he wants to build a recreation center and place of worship? Obviously you—-like many other right wing idiots—want to paint Rauf as a terrorist sympathizer, but if that were the case he’d be in Gitmo by now, for sure. You certainly have a right to your opinion, the same as Rauf does, but to answer your silly little questions is a terrible waste of time. In fact, I know feeding yo’ ass with this response just wasted a few minutes of my own precious time. Good bye, troller!

  4. Yes, it is a great piece. Who, in that neighborhood, would NOT want a Muslim version of the uptown YMHA going up to replace that ugly eyesore former Burlington Coat Factory building?

  5. Babba,

Our government has done things that contributed to pissing off a lot of people, including some Muslims. To deny that is absurd.

No one is denying that. However, it must be pointed out that NOTHING justifies terrorism, no matter how minutely.

It’s like claiming that the woman shares the blame for her rape because she wore a short skirt and a tight sweater.

Even if Rauf can’t answer your questions to your satisfaction that still doesn’t mean he doesn’t have a constitutional right to build a community center, that happens to have a prayer room, there.

Once again, no one is claiming that the Cordoba Group doesn’t have the RIGHT to build the Cordoba Mosque. The issue at hand is, is it proper to build an Islamic mosque so close to the site of the most devastating attack on US soil. An attack committed by Islamic terrorists.

Think of the outcry from Americans if the Japanese wanted to build a Japanese “Cultural” Center a block from Pearl Harbor in 1950. Do you think it would have been welcomed as a small minority of Americans are welcoming the Cordoba Mosque??

No one is questioning the RIGHT to build the Cordoba Mosque. Over 70% of Americans are questioning the WISDOM in building it. And, as Howard Dean stated so eloquently,

“65% of Americans are NOT Right wing bigots.”

Do you thoroughly and unequivocally denounce Timothy McVeigh and Erik Rudolph?

Damn skippy, I do! They are all scum that deserve a bullet to the brain. Actually that is TOO quick a death for them. They should be made to suffer all the pain that they have caused their victims…

THEN take them out and shoot them…

    Dandy,

Concerning Michale’s three questions: they are all false equivalencies that have nothing to do with the issue.

Could you please elaborate as to exactly WHY they are all “false equivalencies”?? You saying it is so, doesn’t make it so. I would love to hear your reasoning.

I suppose you’d ask the same questions if the mosque was slated to be built on Staton Island somewhere, right?

It’s been a while since I have been in the area. I am assuming that Staten Island is quite a bit further from Ground Zero. Assuming this is the case, then… No. I would not have a problem with a mosque in that location.

And, BTW, what the hell does Rauf’s opinion of Hamas have to do with where he wants to build a recreation center and place of worship?

At the risk of invoking a Godwin, would you want a priest who wouldn’t state that the Nazis were evil and wrong, opening a church next to your children’s school??

Or, if you prefer reality, look at all the outcry that came from the Left over Beck having a rally on the same spot and on the same day as the MLK “I HAVE A DREAM” speech.

    Same concept. Same issue..

Obviously you—-like many other right wing idiots—want to paint Rauf as a terrorist sympathizer, but if that were the case he’d be in Gitmo by now, for sure.

Can we curtail the immature name-calling a bit?? It adds NOTHING to the discussion and makes you look petty..

You certainly have a right to your opinion, the same as Rauf does,

Yes, Rauf DOES have the right to his opinion.. And, if his opinion is that Hamas is not a terrorist group, then the vast majority of Americans have the right to oppose his Cordoba Mosque, WITHOUT having their intelligence or their motives questioned..

You demand the right to your opinion without being attacked for it. Surely you can see that others have the same right, no???

That’s what America is all about…

  6. Michale, comparing what our government has done in other countries around the world and saying it’s like blaming a rape victim for the way she’s dressed is absurd. Google our involvement in Afghanistan and bin Laden during the war with the Soviet Union. That’s just one example.

Actually, I think a Shinto shine at Pearl Harbor dedicated to peace 10 years after the end of WWII would have been welcomed.

I think all Christian churches should be banned within 2 miles of the Olympics in Atlanta because Eric Rudolph is a radical violent Christian.

  7. Babba,

Michale, comparing what our government has done in other countries around the world and saying it’s like blaming a rape victim for the way she’s dressed is absurd.

Not really. It’s a perfectly analogous situation.

In both cases the attempt is to mitigate responsibility for disgusting and perverse acts by claiming somehow, no matter how minutely, the victim deserved it.

NOTHING justifies terrorism or rape… Nothing..

Google our involvement in Afghanistan and bin Laden during the war with the Soviet Union. That’s just one example.

    Irrelevant… NOTHING justifies terrorism…

Actually, I think a Shinto shine at Pearl Harbor dedicated to peace 10 years after the end of WWII would have been welcome

Based on what?? Only your personal beliefs… I am confident that the vast majority of Americans would have felt different at the time.

And, for a good deal longer, as it took 46 years for it to happen..

I think all Christian churches should be banned within 2 miles of the Olympics in Atlanta because Eric Rudolph is a radical violent Christian.

If I had my way, all churches of all religions would be banned from the entire United States..

Organized religion has been responsible for more death and destruction and misery then all wars of the 20th century combined. It’s only purpose is to enslave the masses with dogmatic ideology..

    Much like Political Partys 😀

But, you have to admit, it’s ironic.. To see the Left as the crusading warriors of religious freedom.. 😀

The same Left that brought us Spring Break instead of Easter Vacation and Winter Break instead of Christmas Vacation…

Ya gotta love the irony… 😀

  8. Wow. Something we can agree on, Michale. I dislike most religions. (I’m beginning to feel the same way about political parties, too. 🙂 ) I agree that they’ve caused much more in the way of problems than they ever solved. I don’t believe the Federal, state or local governments should offer holidays based on any religion. But we have much bigger problems to deal with so I don’t make a big deal about it. I am a staunch defender of religious freedom because I really do believe in the constitution.

Oh, and considering the make-up of the population of the Hawaiian Islands, I still think a Shinto shrine would have been accepted near Pearl 10 years after the end of the war.

  9. Babba,

Wow. Something we can agree on, Michale.

I would lay a decent wager that we agree on a LOT more than we disagree on.. 😀

Socially, I am very liberal… Comes from being married to a bi-sexual lady.. 😀 National Security, Law Enforcement (I was a cop for a long while), Self Defense issues, I am very conservative..

I don’t know enough about economics to say one way or the other..

I voted have voted Democrat in the last two elections. I voted for Obama but have been very VERY disappointed in his actions. You might feel the same, but I would wager for different reasons.. 😀

I am a registered NPA (No Political Affiliation) which means I am beholden to no Party ideology and can call ’em as I see ’em without worrying about which Party might be offended…

First and foremost, I am an American and always take the side of my country over any Party agenda..
