Planned Parenthood facilities raided by Texas authorities …

The pro-birth crusade continues against Planned Parenthood…

Planned Parenthood says Texas health investigators raided its clinics throughout the state, as Texas moves to halt Medicaid funding to the organization.

Planned Parenthood said investigators asked for health and billing records, along with other records, from its clinics in San Antonio, Dallas and Houston, and a health center in Brownsville. Investigators showed up “looking for an excuse to take health care away from thousands of women and men who rely on Planned Parenthood for preventive care — but what they will see is professional, compassionate and quality health care,” Yvonne Gutierrez, executive director of the Planned Parenthood Texas Votes political action committee, said in a statement…

The state’s Senate Democratic Caucus leader, Senator Jose Rodriguez, says the Texas Office of the Inspector General is asking for client records in addition to business records.

“This is a gross invasion of client privacy, and I’m tired of watching low-income women become collateral damage in attacks on Planned Parenthood that are based on deceptive videos and political grandstanding,” the Senator said in a statement.

Of course, this is all directly due to the videos produced by Center for Medical Progress that were released back in July…

Since other states and a House Oversight Committee haven’t found PP in violation of a single law, misspent Medicaid money is a novel approach to forcing the organization to close their doors. It’s really the only card Abbott has since Texas doesn’t actually fund PP, rather it distributes federal Medicaid money to the clinics for services performed. Worth noting, yet again, that Medicaid doesn’t cover abortion.

In a press conference Ken Lambrecht, the chief executive of Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas, called the raids a “politically motivated…fishing expedition.”
