A certain kind of sexism

One of the reasons the move against Pelosi (and Barbara Lee, who would have been a great caucus chair) is so ageist and sexist is that women who raised families don’t get active in electoral politics until after their kids are grown. So by the time they’re in office and have enough experience to be effective leaders, they’re told they’re… too old. See how that works against women?

  1. I read a quote yesterday: “If Nancy Pelosi had wanted Barbara Lee as Democratic Caucus chair, Barbara Lee would be the Democratic Caucus chair.” That election was less about who was older or what gender they were, and more about how far left they were.

  2. The part about being left of center or a Progressive seems far more relevant to this case then being very, very old like Hoyer and Clyburn or a woman like Pelosi, Fudge or Lee.

    Neo-liberalism is a failure.

  3. Damn. I was hoping my congresswoman would win, because I think she would do the job well and because I feel she deserves it.
I don’t subscribe to the “always blame everything on Nancy” club, but perhaps she could have helped a little more?
